April is Autism Acceptance Month, and the Museum is excited to host and collaborate on sensory-friendly experiences so that guests of all needs and abilities can experience the transformative power of art. In addition to Sensory Day and Meaningful Moments with the Nasher Sculpture Center and Open Studio Sensory Hour, all of which offer sensory-friendly, art-filled fun with less noise, people, and stimulation, the Museum will host its second annual Barefoot Day. From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, the DMA will offer this no-shoes-encouraged experience as a show of support for the neurodiverse community as part of the Barefoot Autism Challenge.

Studies show that museums and engagement with art positively impact mental and physical health, lower stress, and provide a place for community and belonging. In May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the DMA will launch brand-new programs that explore mindfulness and well-being in the arts. With yoga on the serene Museum lawn, a workshop on “letting sh*t go,” meditation and journaling among the art, and more, these programs offer new ways to connect with art and oneself.
