School visits at the DMA facilitate wonder, joy, and creativity in students who participate, and they are specially designed for K–12 classroom, homeschool, and community groups of 10 or more children.
Our goal for every student is to help them make meaningful personal connections with a few purposefully chosen works of art. Guided tours at the DMA are interactive and focus on 4–5 works of art instead of giving an overview tour of the DMA. It is impossible to take in all the DMA has to offer in one school visit! If you are interested in students seeing as much as possible of the DMA during their visit, you can book a self-guided visit here.
Per-student fees help the DMA support its educational programs and ensure equitable learning experiences for all students who visit the Museum. School visits are always free for Dallas ISD schools. Check out our guided-tour pricing below:

PLEASE NOTE: Payment is due with a final head count at least two weeks before the visit. Payment options will be sent with your confirmation email. No changes to head count or tour theme will be accepted after the two-week deadline. The Museum cannot offer a refund if your headcount decreases after your payment has been made.

NEW! Art Detectives
Uncover art and museum mysteries! On this tour, students will first enroll in the DMA's Detective Academy and develop their sleuthing skills by looking closely at art. Then, they will work together to answer the DMA's big unanswered questions that will put their new detective skills to the test. (Recommended for 3rd–5th grade; 60 students per hour)
Recipes for Art
Learn how artists use the ingredients of line, shape, and color as their "recipe" to create endless varieties of art. Tours include multisensory activities, sketching, stories, movement, and more. (Recommended for K–1st grade; limited to 30 students per hour)
Stories in Art
Have fun learning to "read" stories in art from a variety of times and places. (Recommended for 2nd–3rd grade; limited to 30 students per hour)
A Looking Journey
Take an interactive journey through the magical world of art by looking carefully, thinking critically, and paying attention to what you feel. (Recommended for 4th–5th grade; 60 students per hour)

This tour invites students to consider what matters to artists and what matters to them. Artists create to celebrate their communities, tell untold stories, take a stand, and imagine new possibilities. By exploring how artists develop their voices, students will discover how their own perspectives shape the way they see and connect with art and encourage their personal expression.

Our SPED tours, designed for Self-Contained Specialized Services Classrooms (ADL, FLS, TC), spend an extended amount of time focusing on one artwork in the Museum that includes sensory activities and an art making activity in the galleries.
SPED tour themes:
A Feast for the Senses
Students will explore the flavors of a still-life painting through multisensory tools and teaching approaches. This tour engages students by exploring food, creating a fun, interactive, and inclusive environment to learn about art, each other, and themselves.
Mythical Creatures
Students will learn about mythical creatures from different cultures and make connections to the pop culture creatures we encounter today. This tour engages students through multisensory tools, including movement and make-your-own-mythical-creature art making.

Interested in bringing your students to see a special exhibition? Please request this on your form at least three weeks before your requested date. All special exhibitions can accommodate 30 students per hour.
To welcome more students and teachers, the DMA offers bus scholarships to all Title 1 schools visiting the Museum for either a guided or self-guided visit.
Scholarships are awarded on a first come, first served basis for schools demonstrating need. We look at Title I status (now and in the past) of your school/organization as well as the reasoning provided for the need; priority will be given to Title I schools.
