In honor of Dr. Anne R. Bromberg, Curator Emerita, Dr. Jacqueline Chao, the newly appointed Cecil and Ida Green Curator of Asian Art, will share her insights on the DMA’s Asian art collection and exhibitions. This talk will highlight shared connections across time, as well as explore some possible future directions for collecting, research, and exhibitions. Prior to Chao's appointment as the DMA's Cecil and Ida Green Curator of Asian Art, she had served since 2016 as Senior Curator of Asian Art at the Crow Museum of Asian Art of The University of Texas at Dallas, where she curated and organized more than 20 exhibitions that presented works ranging from the historical to the contemporary in all medias from across the globe. A specialist in East Asian and Buddhist art, she is a widely published author and frequent lecturer on Asian art. She holds an MA and PhD in the History and Theory of Art from Arizona State University, and an Honors BA in Art History from the University of Toronto. In 2019 she was recognized for her curatorial work in Patron magazine’s “Best Of: Curators” issue for bringing advanced perspectives to the Crow Museum’s collections and for broadening perceptions of Asian art. She is also the recipient of a 2021 Association of Art Museum Curators Curatorial Award for Excellence.
