Arts & Craft After Dark with Adroit Origami

After you purchase a “craft” cocktail at the DMA Cafe, join in and make some art! In honor of our Samurai to the Imperial Court exhibition, you’ll find all the supplies and step-by-step instructions needed to make your very own origami samurai helmet, crane, or lotus flower. This self-guided drop-in activity is available while supplies last.
Pop-Up Art Spot: Show Your True Colors Buttons

How well do you think you know the person you came with tonight? Are they a goody-two-shoes, slightly wicked, or somewhere in between? Armed with that knowledge and inspiration from works of art on display, design—and exchange—buttons for each other using a variety of collage and drawing materials at your disposal. Also create a button for yourself and wear your true colors for all to see! Free, and all materials provided; activity available until supplies last.
Origami with Adroit Origami: Artist-Led Mini-Workshop

Back by popular demand! Join Travis Nolan from Adroit Origami to create objects inspired by our special exhibition Samurai to the Imperial Court: Japanese Metalwork. These mini-workshops last 20 minutes each. Space is limited; you must reserve your spot near the Guest Services Desk prior to activity time.

Enjoy the beautiful spring weather on our outdoor plaza. We’ll have the bar open, DJ Rooney Tunes spinning, and a live artmaking demonstration by Dallas-based artist Mario Zie Chang. Talk with him and ask about his process and the work he's creating for his upcoming solo exhibition.

Led by the DMA Curatorial team, take a deep dive into our special exhibition Samurai to the Imperial Court: Japanese Metalworks. Space is limited; first come, first served. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the tour to reserve your spot and receive your headset. Tours meet near the Red Elevators.

Samurai Armor Dressing Demonstration with the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum

Prepare for battle! Join Emily Barnes and Jessica Beasley from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum for the opportunity to don a replica samurai suit and learn about the history and technical mastery of samurai armor.
Creativity Challenge: Putt Your Spin on It
8:00–9:00 p.m., Eagle Family Plaza
Join us for a tee-riffic team challenge to design and build a playable mini-golf hole inspired by a work from the DMA’s postwar and contemporary art collection. You’ll have a selection of unexpected materials to use but only a limited amount of time in this Iron Chef- or Chopped-style challenge. The winning hole will be judged on creativity, playability, and connection to the artwork, and team members will receive a mystery prize pack. All materials provided; limited to six teams of up to four people each. Sign-up is available near the Guest Services Desk at the Main Entrance as soon as the doors open.
