We’re turning the lights down and the volume up, bringing you an elevated take on the beloved Late Night at the DMA series you remember. Back as part of the Meet Me at the Museum series, Late Night returns with more vibrant energy than ever—featuring live music, curated cocktails, gallery tours, interactive art making, and after-hours access to our Level 1 and 2 galleries.

Friday, November 7, 2025 - Join us as we take a deep dive into Surrealism this month with the opening of International Surrealism at the DMA. We're celebrating the 150th anniversary of the first Surrealist exhibition so come dressed for the party in your most creative Surrealist-inspired attire. The top three outfits of the night will win a fabulous DMA prize! You'll also enjoy live music and hands on art making, and have the opportunity to have a custom dream-like portrait created by a Dallas-based artist, all while surrounded by great art! See the schedule below.

Gallery Talks & Tours
Led by a guest scholar, descend into the surreal and learn about the people and artists who created a movement. Space is limited. First come, first served. Arrive 15 minutes early to reserve your spot.

Surrealist Poetry Performances with Dallas Poetry Slam
7:30–10:30 p.m., Levels 1 and 2
Don’t dive too deep into your unconscious. Be on the lookout for Surrealist-inspired poets performing their wildest dreams with pop-up performances throughout the night.

Arts & Craft After Dark
7:00–9:00 p.m., Hamon Atrium
Grab a “craft” cocktail and make some art! Explore the fascinating dream world of Surrealism while you create your own collage or a wearable mask. All supplies are provided for you to walk away with original artwork created by you! This is a self-guided drop-in activity while supplies last.

Dream Portraits
7:00–10:30 p.m., Eagle Family Plaza, Hamon Atrium, and Horchow Auditorium Lobby
Sit for a quick portrait with Dallas-based artists Kelsey Anne Heimerman, Rhys Valentine, and Samira Velazquez, who will render your dreams visible.

Dream sketchers will be located outside on Eagle Family Plaza and in the Hamon Atrium from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. From 9:30 to 10:30 p.m., you will find them in the Horchow Auditorium Lobby.
Limit, one portrait sitting per person.

Pop Up Art Spot!
7:00–9:00 p.m., Level 2, Modern European Art Galleries
Engage your friends in fun and unusual creative games in the galleries inspired by those played by artists like Dalí and his contemporaries while surrounded by examples of Surrealist art from the DMA's collection! No art experience necessary—just bring your creativity and humor!

Creativity Challenge
8:00–9:00 p.m., Horchow Auditorium Lobby
Join our friends from Pasos for Oak Cliff for an exciting team-based challenge! You'll have a limited amount of time and mystery materials to design a pair of sneakers inspired by Surrealist works from the Museum's permanent collection in this fun take on Iron Chef. Prizes will go to the winning team for that evening, and afterwards all sneakers will be displayed at the Museum for the remainder of the month so that visitors can vote on their favorite design. Limit 15 teams of up to four people each. Sign up at the Guest Services Desk near the Main Entrance. First come, first served.

Surrealist Ball Costume Contest
9:00–9:30 p.m., Hamon Atrium
Come dressed to impress our judges in your best Dalí, Magritte, or other surreal ensemble. You could be selected by one of our roving judges to participate in the costume contest. Don’t worry about signing up, if your attire is Surrealist Ball approved, you’ll be invited to join.

Spectators welcome: All are welcome and encouraged to wear Surrealism-inspired clothing, accessories, and make-up and join us in the Hamon Atrium at 9:00 p.m.

Must be in the building by 8:20 p.m. to be eligible for the contest.

For the safety of the artwork and other guests, large costumes, full face masks, and outfits with extended elements (such as wings, large props, oversized headpieces, or other parts that jut out significantly) are not permitted. Costumes should remain within the wearer's personal space and not pose a risk of bumping into displays or other visitors. No weapons (real or fake), roller blades, roller skates, skateboards, scooters, or other non-ADA required conveyances will be permitted in the building.
