"Texas' Ultimate Noir Town"

Don’t miss the chance to explore noir fiction with some of the most celebrated writers in Dallas! David Hale Smith said in the introduction to his anthology, Dallas Noir, “in a country with so many interesting cities, Dallas is often overlooked—except on November 22 every year. . . . On that day in 1963, Dallas became noir.” This evening will explore Dallas, its legacy, and the incredible writing talent that resides here.

Matt Bondurant’s newest novel, The Night Swimmer, was featured in the New York Times, the Daily Beast, and other media venues. His second novel, The Wettest County in the World, was adapted into a feature film, Lawless. His first novel, The Third Translation, was an international bestseller.

Catherine Cuellar, executive director of the Dallas Arts District, is a third generation Dallas native with a degree in creative writing from Rhodes College. She co-hosted The Writer’s Studio on public radio and has appeared in Dallas’s storytelling series Oral Fixation (An Obsession with True Life Tales).

David Haynes teaches and directs the creative writing program at Southern Methodist University. He is the author of six novels for adults and five books for younger readers. His latest novel is Face of the Sky.

Kathleen Kent is the author of two bestselling novels, The Heretic’s Daughter and The Traitor’s Wife. Her third novel, The Outcasts, set in 1870 Texas, was published in September.
