In celebration of National Poetry Month

Award-winning poet Billy Collins and singer-songwriter Aimee Mann join forces for a rare evening of poetry, music, and conversation about their creative process.

Billy Collins is an American phenomenon. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. The author of ten books of poetry, Collins is a former US Poet Laureate, a Guggenheim Fellow, and the inaugural recipient of the Mark Twain Award for Humor in Poetry by the Poetry Foundation.

Oscar- and Grammy-nominated indie music star Aimee Mann pens “sharp, literate, carefully crafted lyrics” (The Telegraph, UK) that reflect her wry and quirky worldview. She appeared in the Coen brothers’ film The Big Lebowski, wrote haunting songs for the soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, and has had cameo appearances on The West Wing and Portlandia. Her recent releases include Charmer and a collaboration with Ted Leo, The Both.

Read Billy Collins' original poem inspired by a work of art in the DMA's collection.
