Text

Artist Soody Sharifi will talk about her use of photography, painting, and collage to explore the experience of living between two distinct cultures. Sharifi will focus on her series of maxiatures, in which she takes the centuries-old medium of Persian miniature painting and digitally infuses it with symbols of modern life such as trucks, satellite dishes, and figures in modern dress. After the talk, see Sharifi's Courtly Love in the Keir Collection galleries alongside the 15th-century painting that inspired it.

Soody Sharifi is an Iranian-born American artist working in Houston. She holds degrees in industrial engineering and photography from the University of Houston. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions across Texas, New York, and northern Europe, as well as in articles in European Photography Art magazine, the Houston Chronicle, and Glasstire, among others.

This talk is part of Late Nights at the Dallas Museum of Art
