Gallery Talk: Caravaggio

Julien Domercq, the DMA's Lillian and James H. Clark Assistant Curator of European Art, will discuss Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio's masterpiece Martha and Mary Magdalene, on loan from the Detroit Institute of Arts. 

Made during the artist's early career in Rome, the large painting depicts the moment of Mary Magdalene's conversion with a theatrical realism that would set Caravaggio apart from his contemporaries and revolutionize painting in the 1600s.
