Summer Art Camp: Stitching Stories

Ages: 6–8
Teacher: Shelley Hampe

Can you tell a story with fabric, buttons, and thread? Find out as we learn basic stitches and use fabrics and fibers to create works of art. We'll look at early American quilts, mud cloth wrappers from Mali, and contemporary Native ceremonial costumes to see how artists have stitched their stories. Then, in the studio, create a fabric collage and a monster plushie, and experiment with yarn, buttons, and beads.
