Art and music come together with a pop-up performance by the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Orchestra (ACGYO). Thirteen exceptional young guitarists will share a concert inspired by artists and museums from Austin to Oklahoma City, including newly commissioned works and music in the classical and flamenco style. In addition to the Dallas Museum of Art, the tour includes collaborations with the First Americans Museum, Adrian Landon Brooks & The Press Room, OKC's Plaza Walls, and Oklahoma City University.
Recognized as one of the most outstanding ensembles of its kind, the Austin Classical Guitar Youth Orchestra is an auditioned ensemble of exceptional young guitarists from Austin, Texas. Under the direction of Dr. Joe Williams, the ACGYO has performed for thousands in Austin’s most prestigious venues and in guest appearances at the San Francisco Conservatory, Big Bend National Park, Outpost Performance Space (Albuquerque, New Mexico), Las Torres de Cotillas Flamenco Festival (Murcia, Spain), and the Antonio de Torres Museo de la Guitarra (Almeria, Spain).
The group's members are Yang-Fan Chau, Paul Devens, Joshua Garcia, Eleanora Mason, Teddy McCoy, Connor Mckenzie, Noah Melendrez, Brooks Moren, Adrian Ordonez, Greg Sonnier, Archith Venkatagiri, and Camden Wells, with Director Joe Williams and Assistant ACGYO Director Alex Lew.
The ACGYO is a program developed by Austin Classical Guitar, the largest nonprofit arts organization dedicated to classical guitar in the United States. Founded in 1990, Austin Classical Guitar currently presents over 100 concerts annually, showcasing the world’s greatest guitarists and regional talent. ACG’s education work supports over 4,000 secondary school students each week in central Texas and their curriculum is used all over the world. The group's mission is to inspire individuals in their community through musical experiences of deep personal significance.
