Text

To make the DMA a safe and enjoyable place for our visitors, volunteers, and staff, please note the following guidelines.

General

  • Visitors must have a general admission ticket for entry.
  • Face coverings are no longer required indoors for fully vaccinated visitors and staff; however, face coverings are recommended to maximize protection per CDC guidance.
  • Tape on the floor near a work of art indicates how far away you should stand from the object. A good general rule is to stand at least three feet away from a work of art.
  • Please do not touch any work of art or Plexiglas casing, including outdoor sculptures.
  • School groups with 10 or more students are required to make a reservation and submit payment at least two weeks in advance; groups without a reservation may be turned away. All school, homeschool, and community class groups must book through the School Group Visit Program and may not use general admission tickets to visit.

Food, Drink, and Tobacco

  • No outside food and drink are allowed in the DMA galleries or in the DMA Cafe.
  • No outside alcohol and glass containers are allowed on Eagle Family Plaza or in the Museum's outdoor gallery spaces.
  • No smoking or vaping is allowed anywhere in the DMA, including outdoor Museum spaces, the DMA parking garage, and in front of the entrances.
  • Picnics are allowed on the lawn of Eagle Family Plaza, in the Sculpture Garden, and in Fleischner Courtyard.

Photography and Filming

Guest Photography

We encourage guests to capture memories of their visit to the DMA with non-flash, personal-use photography and filming. No equipment larger than a handheld, single-lens camera and no tripods, selfie sticks, or monopods are allowed.

Don’t forget to tag us and use #DMAJourney for a chance to be featured on the DMA’s social media!

Portrait Shoots

For the safety of the artworks on view and to preserve the experience of our guests, we are not able to accommodate portrait or posed photoshoots.

This includes, but is not limited to, engagement and wedding photos (without a private event venue reservation* and contract), senior and graduation photos, family portraits, fashion photoshoots, and any staged photoshoots with a model.

Photography and filming that involves a costume, formal wear, outfit changes, extended posing time, or use of anything larger than a handheld, single-lens camera is considered a portrait shoot and is not permitted.

For more information on Private Event Reservations, please click here.

Commercial Shoots

Commercial photography and/or filming requests may be permitted at the discretion of the DMA. Photography and/or filming must take place on a Monday when the Museum is closed to the public and is available in limited areas of the Museum and its grounds. A certificate of insurance meeting the minimum limits of liability as stipulated in the Photography Agreement is required in advance of the shoot. A location fee will be assessed based on the total time needed for the shoot (including set-up and tear-down), staffing, and security requirements. Photography and/or filming at the DMA must be requested at least four weeks in advance of the shoot day.

Please submit your request by emailing mediarelations@dma.org with the following information:

  • Contact name
  • Contact organization
  • Contact email
  • Date of shoot
  • Time of shoot
  • Number of hours needed
  • Number of crew/personnel
