Dallas, TX—June 11, 2024—Dallasites of all ages are invited to beat the heat this summer at the Dallas Museum of Art! The DMA is offering up brand-new ways to chill out on hot Texas days with the coolest artistic discoveries in town.
The DMA will celebrate national Pride Month in June alongside its neighbors in the heart of the city during the annual Dallas Arts District Pride Block Party! For this art-filled celebration of love and community, the DMA will host a Late Night event highlighting how the LGBTQ+ community has shaped the landscape of the arts throughout history. Block Party attendees can participate in a figure drawing class featuring fabulous Drag Queens straight from the Rose Room in our Sketch for Your Life art-making activity, see the all-female indie rock band The Roommates rock the Hamon Atrium, join multiple art tours led by colorful characters, and become a part of the event in the culminating Kiki Ball, plus so much more! The Pride Month celebrations will continue later in June and will include an Arts & Letters Live event featuring a conversation between author Steven Rowley, winner of the Thurber Prize for American Humor, and DMA Chief Experience Officer Brad Pritchett. Rowley and Pritchett will take the stage in the DMA’s Horchow Auditorium to discuss the author’s latest novel, The Guncle Abroad, a charming sequel to his New York Times bestseller The Guncle. Tickets to this heartwarming and humorous conversation are still available at dma.org.
At the DMA, we believe that every maker, artist, or creative has to start somewhere. Let the DMA's expert art educators guide you on your journey to find your inner maker with the new workshop and studio program Maker’s Movement! Combining exciting engineering challenges and art with projects like light-up needlepoint embroidery and laser-cut pet portrait puzzles, Maker's Movement gives you the space to learn, grow and ignite your creativity! Whether you're an expert artist or haven't had the opportunity to make since elementary school art class, our team of educators is ready to meet you where you're at, tailoring your experience to help your unique talents shine through. Let's create something together!
Families with budding art lovers home from school for the summer can embark on journeys of all kinds with the Museum’s summer family programming. Children ages 4 to 15 will explore the DMA galleries, make new friends and, most importantly, create during Summer Art Camps! From June to August, Summer Art Camps have activities for every creative kid. Kids can investigate the wonders of the natural world in the W.O.W. Camp session, explore art good enough to eat in the Taste of the Museum session or grab their wand for a week of artistic magic in the Wizard Art School session.
Guests can plan their journey at dma.org/calendar and learn more about DMA programs at dma.org/programs.
