The Center for Creative Connections (C3) Featured Artist program selects a local artist to create an installation in the C3 Gallery. The C3 Featured Artist’s project will ignite curiosity, foster critical dialogue on themes presented in the current exhibition, and provide a unique opportunity for visitors of all ages and abilities to creatively engage with art.
As an African American contemporary sculptor and single mother, my journey as an artist is deeply interwoven with my identity, experiences, and the communities I serve. My art reflects resilience, playfulness, and a commitment to shaping spaces where connection and storytelling thrive. Rooted in my heritage and inspired by the vibrant narratives of everyday life, I create sculptures that invite interaction, foster curiosity, and celebrate diversity.
Being a mother has profoundly influenced my creative practice, teaching me to see the world through fresh, playful eyes. This perspective drives my passion for crafting artworks that resonate with people of all ages, from bold, tactile installations that encourage hands-on exploration to intricate pieces that spark reflection. My work is designed not just to be seen, but
to be experienced.
Giving back to my community is central to my mission as an artist. Through free art lessons, scholarships, and collaborative public art projects, I aim to empower others to discover their creative voices. By engaging with local youth, underrepresented groups, and community members, I strive to create art that is inclusive and representative of the collective spirit.
My installations honor stories of history, family, and shared humanity. Whether it’s a piece inspired by the quilting traditions of my grandmother or a public installation reflecting the history of a specific place, my art seeks to bridge the past and present while inspiring a brighter, more inclusive future.
