Join Dallas-based artist and painting educator Juliana Crownover as the DMA joins museums all over the world to celebrate the 200th birthday of Frederic Edwin Church. The creator of one of the DMA's most beloved and iconic artworks, The Icebergs, would have turned 200 years old on May 4, 2026. As part of the worldwide celebration, we are creating a unique opportunity to learn more about Church and his artwork during a private curator-led tour at the Museum followed by an artist-led workshop where you will create your own version of The Icebergs. The class will explore the magic of complementary colors—how to mix luminous grays and make colors truly sing. Using a limited complementary palette, you’ll paint your own interpretation of The Icebergs and gain color insights you can carry into future artworks.

Meet the Artist
Juliana Crownover has been teaching art for over 10 years. In the summer, she’s an artist in residence at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico. When home in North Texas, she teaches plein air pastel and oil workshops.
“In my classes, I strive to create a balance that allows enough freedom so that students can create their own art, and enough direction to ensure success. Aside from the end-goal of finished art, I think the process should be enjoyed, and I work hard to create an environment that allows for that.”
