Join artist Leigh Ann Williams Hickey to examine works from the Museum's Japanese art collection and things that provide her with creative inspiration. She will discuss works on view and look at her artistic practice in which she uses objects from the past to create personal relics. Afterwards, explore the Japanese art of kintsugi: fixing and transforming broken pottery using gold, silver, or copper gilding to make them even more beautiful by highlighting the cracks instead of hiding them. Keeping the philosophy of Wabi-sabi, participants will discuss and explore how beauty and value can be found in things that are imperfect or worn. All materials provided.
