In honor of the 10th anniversary of D’JAM in April 2023, the D’JAM consortium, in partnership with the Dallas Arts District, is presenting a free “Jazz Stroll,” with performances at multiple venues throughout the afternoon.

The DMA will feature The Satin Dolls Band, an all-female jazz group that is the inspiration of vocalist Carolyn Lee Jones and her successful 2018–2019 HOORAY FOR THE GIRLS jazz show celebrating women composers, lyricists, librettists, and singers of the 20th century and beyond. The Satin Dolls Band performs classic jazz favorites from The Great American Songbook, Blues, Broadway, R&B, original compositions, and retro-pop favorites with a jazz twist. Notable performances include the Dallas Museum of Art, DMA Late Nights, the Kitchen Cafe Supper Club, the Balcony Club, and Sammons Center for the Arts.

The band’s name is a nod to the 1953 jazz song "Satin Doll," composed by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. The song has been recorded by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Wilson, Blossom Dearie, and other well-known male and female recording artists.

About D'JAM
Dallas Jazz Appreciation Month (D’JAM) is a monthlong celebration of jazz venues, artists, legends, and rising stars who call North Texas home. Since 2013 D’JAM has been held each April as part of the Smithsonian’s Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM) initiative and presents a variety of events highlighting and showcasing jazz in the North Texas area. The local initiative, led by the Sammons Center, is executed by a volunteer collective of jazz presenters, educators, and supporters that includes nonprofit arts groups, universities, festivals, arts magnet high schools, cultural centers, and jazz clubs.
