Arts & Letters Live presents an original commissioned dance performance curated by Nycole Ray, the visionary Artistic Director of Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s Encore! Echoes of Diaspora: A Ballet Inspired by “Afro-Atlantic Histories” is an immersive and poignant journey through time, culture, and the enduring spirit of the African Diaspora. Audiences are invited to embark on an emotional odyssey portraying the resilience and strength of a people forging their identity amidst adversity and tracing their profound narratives.
The DMA’s Afro-Atlantic Histories exhibition explores the history and legacy of the Black Diaspora, with a focus on the transatlantic slave trade, providing “a rich and revelatory exploration of visual cultures that offers a deeply international vision of Black aesthetic traditions” (Ade Omotosho, the DMA’s Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art).
Celebrating its 20th season, DBDT: Encore! performs contemporary modern and lyrical works, including world premieres and revivals of Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s repertoire. Additionally, DBDT Encore! provides valuable dance education programs in schools and conducts outreach activities in community venues.
