In conversation with Lee Cullum

The King of Diamonds, by award-winning journalist Rena Pederson, tells the thrilling story of a brazen jewel thief who roamed the homes of Dallas high society, and provides a window into the dark secrets lurking beneath the surface of the Swinging Sixties.

Eluding the police and FBI for more than a decade, the thief was never caught, and the jewels never recovered. Pederson interviewed more than 200 people, from veteran cops to strippers—visiting pawn shops, Las Vegas casinos, and a Mafia hangout—and discovered that beneath the glittering façade of Dallas debutante parties was a world of sex trafficking, illegal gambling, and political graft.

During Pederson’s career as a journalist, she has interviewed newsmakers ranging from Margaret Thatcher to Fidel Castro and Jane Goodall, as well as five U.S. presidents. She served on the Pulitzer Prize Board for nine years and received national recognition in her role as Vice President and Editorial Page Editor at the Dallas Morning News.

Books will be shipped to virtual ticket holders after the event date.
