"Crafting Comedy"
You may know him as one of the genius minds behind The Office, or perhaps for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. But now, B. J. Novak takes the stage as an author as he launches his debut collection, One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories. Influenced by writers like Woody Allen, David Sedaris, and George Saunders, One More Thing is endlessly entertaining, surprisingly sensitive, and startlingly original. It marks the arrival of a new voice in American fiction.
Novak earned a B.A. in English and Spanish from Harvard University; as a sophomore, he became one of the youngest editors ever of the Harvard Lampoon. He then moved to Southern California, where he supported himself as a stand-up comic. He appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and was Ashton Kutcher’s chief accomplice on MTV’s Punk’d.
He is perhaps best known for his contributions to NBC’s award-winning comedy The Office. In addition to starring as Ryan Howard, the temp-turned-boss-turned-temp, Novak was also a co-executive producer and wrote many of the show’s most memorable episodes, including “Diversity Day,” “Sexual Harassment,” “The Fire,” “Safety Training,” and “Local Ad.”
In 2008, his show “B. J. Novak & Friends” was featured as the closing night of the New York Comedy Festival. His last show in L.A. sold out in twenty-five minutes. He can next be seen in the upcoming film Saving Mr. Banks.
