Celebrate the long-awaited reopening of the Center for Creative Connections (C3) and the premiere of the in-gallery exhibition Rhythms on Repeat on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, with music, artist talks, art making, and more!

Music Maestro Family Guide

Let yourself move to the rhythm of the musical instruments at the DMA with this fun family guide! Disponible en español. 

Pattern Bingo  
Available in C3 
Pick up pattern bingo cards for your group and search Rhythms on Repeat in C3 and other DMA Galleries to see how many different types of patterns you can find. The first person to get 5 in a row wins!

Make-a-thon with Launchpad Incubator 
NEW Art Lab, C3 
Join student makers from Launchpad to kick off programming in our new makerspace with a series of design challenges throughout the day. All materials are provided, and all ages are welcome.

Community Partner Gallery: The Stewpot Adult Artist Program 
View artworks created by members of the Stewpot’s Adult Artist Program in response to Rhythms on Repeat and join select artists throughout the day to discuss their work.

Pan-African Connection Drum Circle

Kick off the grand reopening of C3 and the new exhibition Rhythms on Repeat with a joyous and energetic drum circle. For years, Pan-African Connection has offered a free drum circle each Sunday. Join us for a chance to engage and connect with their community drumming experience. 

Community Rhythms

Collaborate with community members and artist Giovanni Valderas on an art project inspired by the rhythms and movement of everyday life and informed by the artist’s unique process.

Instrument Petting Zoo with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra 
11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m., C3 Theater  
Have you always wanted to try a violin or play a snare drum? Check out the Dallas Symphony’s Instrument Petting Zoo! It’s the perfect chance to not only see instruments from the string and percussion families up close but also play them! 

Building Beats with Spin the Spectrum 
11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., Art Studio 2, C3 
Meet DJ Clipp, co-founder of Spin the Spectrum, and learn how to mix music while experimenting with different DJ techniques.

Explore different patterns in the DMA’s collection with this quick gallery talk led by Dallas-based artist and art historian Lane Banks.

Enjoy jazz, soul, and R&B music spun by DJ BoyBlk and inspired by artworks in Rhythms on Repeat, including the Jazz Bowl and Erykah Badu Vessel.

Open Studio with Jessica Bell

Create your own soft sculpture inspired by Rhythms on Repeat and Pattern Play with help from C3 Featured Artist Jessica Bell.

For a hands-on, minds-on experience, visit the Pop-Up Art Spot, featuring new activities that explore artworks in the Museum’s permanent collection through the lens of Rhythms on Repeat. Engage in creative play through pattern and repetition, build lush soundscapes, and more.

Artist Talk with Riley Holloway  
1:30–2:30 p.m., C3 Theater 
Dallas-based artist Riley Holloway will discuss his work Records on Repeat, on view for the first time at the DMA in the new exhibition Rhythms on Repeat.

Rhythms on Repeat Tour  
2:30 p.m., Meet at the entrance to C3 
Join Rhythms on Repeat curators Dr. Emily Schiller and Stacey Lizotte for a tour of some of their favorite objects and learn how the exhibition came together. Space is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Symphonic Scavenger Hunt

The DMA is full of rhythm! Go on a scavenger hunt to find more musically inspired artworks in the collection. The first 200 visitors to complete the search and have all the correct answers win a fun prize.

3:30 p.m.

Artist Talk with Benjamin Styer  
3:30–4:30 p.m., C3 Theater 
Artist Benjamin Styer will discuss his work Melody for Walk to the Reservoir, on view for the first time at the DMA in the new exhibition Rhythms on Repeat.

Sit in our cafe and enjoy jazz music performed by the Stockton Helbing Quartet and inspired by Romare Bearden’s Soul Three, on view in Rhythms on Repeat.

Beat Workshop with Flip a Beat Club   
11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., Art Studio 2, C3
Learn the basics of creating your own beat from various music samples with members of the Dallas chapter of the Flip a Beat Club. Workshops have limited spaces available and last approximately 30 minutes per session.

Community Rhythms

C3 Featured Artist Jessica Bell will discuss her work Pattern Play, an interactive installation she created for the new exhibition Rhythms on Repeat. Bell is a mixed-media artist who creates sculptures that invite interaction, foster curiosity, and celebrate diversity.
