Curator Panel: Visibility in Contemporary Art/History

Join us for a lively panel discussion with the curators of When You See Me: Visibility in Contemporary Art/History. Featuring contemporary team members Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck, Dr. Vivian Li, Ade Omotosho, and Veronica Myers, and moderated by Emily Edwards, Associate Curator, Dallas Contemporary, the panel will trace the development of the exhibition and its themes, as well as examine the politics of visibility in contemporary life in relation to the artworks on view. 

This event is free but registration is required. Access to the exhibition When You See Me: Visibility in Contemporary Art/History is also free on this date. 

This program is presented in partnership with Dallas Art Fair and Dallas Contemporary.  

 

Dr. Anna Katherine Brodbeck, Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Dallas Museum of Art 
Since joining the DMA in 2017, Brodbeck has curated numerous exhibitions, including Cecily Brown: Themes and Variations, He Said/She Said: Contemporary Women Interject, When You See Me: Visibility in Contemporary Art/History, Movement: The Legacy of Kineticism, For a Dreamer of Houses, Jonas Wood, and America Will Be!: Surveying the Contemporary Landscape, as well as the Museum’s emerging artist platform series, Concentrations, and its annual mural commission. Prior to joining the DMA, she worked in the curatorial departments at the Carnegie Museum, Pittsburgh; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Frick Collection, New York. She holds a PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and has published widely in the field of modern and contemporary art. 

Emily Edwards, Associate Curator, Dallas Contemporary 
Edwards has served as the Associate Curator at Dallas Contemporary for over six years and has curated exhibitions of artists EJ Hill, Martin Gonzales, Bianca Bondi, Chloe Chiasson, Gabrielle Goliath, Natalie Wadlington, Shilpa Gupta, Ariel Rene Jackson, and Margarita Cabrera and assisted with over 30 of DC’s exhibitions. Recently, Edwards was the recipient of an ICI Étant Donnés Curatorial Fellowship. She independently curated the acclaimed exhibition Is It Real? Artists Address Reproductive Freedom in 2024 with Sara Hignite and was the curator of the 2023 Texas Vignette Art Fair. Her curatorial practice is dedicated to working with historically underrepresented artists with a specialization in sociopolitical commentary. Before moving to Dallas, she worked on the curatorial team at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. She holds an MA in Art History and Museum Studies from Georgetown University. 

Dr. Vivian Li, The Lupe Murchison Curator of Contemporary Art, Dallas Museum of Art 
Since she began at the DMA in 2019, Li has realized collaborative projects with artists such as Mel Chin, Tiffany Chung, and Ivan Argote, and  curated the retrospective Matthew Wong: The Realm of Appearances

Veronica Myers, Curatorial Assistant for Contemporary Art, Asian Art, and Islamic Art, Dallas Museum of Art 
Prior to joining the DMA in 2021, Myers held multiple positions at the Smart Museum of Art, contributing to research, exhibitions, and collection development. A specialist in modern and contemporary art with a focus on time-based media, Myers holds an MA in History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London and a BA in Sociology and Art History from the University of Chicago.

Ade Omotosho is a writer and art historian from Dallas, where he is The Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art at the Dallas Museum of Art.
