British artist Ralph Steadman rose to prominence in the 1970s with stirring images of politics and injustice, but perhaps his true career-defining moment took place in 1969, when he was paired with writer Hunter S. Thompson to cover the Kentucky Derby. Working together, the sober Brit and wildcard American formed a personal and creative bond, and when they combined their talents—Thompson’s prose and Steadman’s drawings—they created an energetic, personal and irreverent form of commentary soon after dubbed "gonzo journalism." For No Good Reason offers a look inside the radical illustrator’s home and history with a blend of animation, archival footage and interviews.
