Katherine Brodbeck, the DMA’s Nancy and Tim Hanley Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, will speak with Scott Rothkopf of the Whitney Museum and Bennett Simpson of the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles about the new exhibition Laura Owens.
Composed of 60 objects made over 20 years, this comprehensive presentation of Owens' work follows the evolution of her innovative, and at times controversial, approach to painting. Her bold and experimental work challenges traditional assumptions about figuration and abstraction, as well as the relationships among avant-garde art, craft, pop culture, and technology. The panel will discuss major themes in the exhibition and how Owens' early work sets the stage for her recent paintings and installations.
