Join Gavin Delahunty, The Hoffman Family Senior Curator of Contemporary Art and curator of Jackson Pollock: Blind Spots, for a deeper look at this often underexplored but pivotal part of the artist’s oeuvre known as the black paintings. Blind Spots brings together the most significant showing of this widely debated body of work in a public institution since 1980. In addition to the black paintings, Blind Spots presents the artist’s drawings from the same period; a selection of paintings from 1947 to 1950, considered the height of Pollock’s career; and a number of virtually unknown and rarely seen sculptures. Exhibiting works from the peak of the artist’s fame juxtaposed with his lesser-known work offers the unique opportunity to appreciate Pollock’s broader ambitions as an artist and better understand the importance of the “blind spots” in his practice.
