Presented in partnership with Echoes of India

Originally derived from the ancient vedic scriptures, Kuchipudi is a South Indian classical dance form that manifests itself through graceful movement and incredibly detailed expression. This will be a delightful presentation of dance choreographed to poetic and lyrical compositions of revived musical works from the 17th century and beyond. Beautifully rendered by an up-and-coming Kuchipudi dancer, Pranamya Suri (student of Srilatha Suri), the selected works will serve as a bridge between the ancient world of Indian dance, music, and literature and the current exhibitions at the Dallas Museum of Art.

Before the performance, enjoy a tour of the Arts of Asia in our collection. The tour will begin at 2:00 p.m.; meet at the main Visitor Services Desk.

"Ms. Suri, ravishingly dressed in cream and gold, at once made the rapid footwork and gestures of Kuchipudi absorbing and, in statuesque positions, she has piercing beauty of line, too. Overall, she combines vitality with sweetness; the fluency with which she strings her sharply pattering steps into prolonged phrases is a particular part of her spell." The New York Times
