Join us for our first-ever Arts & Letters Live “Life in Stitches” event, a writing and embroidery workshop inspired by To Be Determined. This newly installed exhibition juxtaposes works from many centuries, geographies, and cultures to trace how the significance of art can shift when presented in new contexts. Drawn from the DMA’s global collection and featuring new acquisitions by Dallas-based artists, the exhibition affirms the resilience of individuals and communities during past and present struggles.

After enjoying a brief overview of themes in the exhibition by staff and viewing the exhibition on your own, participants will be guided to write a six-word memoir inspired by their viewing experience and personal reflection on life during the pandemic. Then staff will facilitate an embroidery workshop, teaching participants how to stitch their written memoir. Using materials provided, each person will be given an embroidery hoop, fabric, thread, and needle, along with a step-by-step guide. Time outside of class may be needed to finish your work. This experience combines art, personal reflection, writing, and creativity, inspiring us to weave a closer and connected community.

Led by Cristina Echezarreta, McDermott Intern for Adult Programming, and Carolee Klimchock, Program Manager, Arts & Letters Live
