Teen Workshop: Museum Memoir with Kendra Greene

Text

Consider the tremendous variety of backstory, anecdote, and observation that accumulates in a place that's a century old and takes 200 people to run. Now join us for an exploration of that oral history, the art of the interview, and what you might hear if only you'd ask. However the writer chooses to document these stories from the DMA's institutional memory—or take them as a point of departure—we will make a zine to collect them. Ages 13–19; no experience is necessary, and all materials are provided.

Writer-in-Residence A. Kendra Greene hung up her white gloves at the Museum of Contemporary Photography to earn an MFA from the University of Iowa—and she has been writing about shipwrecks, exploding negatives, and stolen woodpeckers ever since. She lives in Dallas, where she is finishing an essay collection about museum collections. Anomalous Press published her chapbook, "Anatomy of a Museum," in March 2016. Read more about Greene's work at the DMA.
