How can I help protect the art?

  • Keep your distance. The art won’t bite, but you still need to keep a safe distance (two feet is great). Please do not touch!

  • Your boots were made for walking. Please use your walking feet in the Museum.

  • Strike a pose! The art at the DMA is not camera shy! Photography without a flash is allowed in the galleries unless otherwise indicated.

  • Lighten your load! Please refrain from carrying backpacks on your back as you may accidentally bump the art. You may check large bags, backpacks, and umbrellas at the Coat Check.

  • Front baby carriers and shoulder diaper bags are allowed in the galleries. Please refrain from wearing back carriers as you may accidentally bump the art.

  • Stop by the Guest Services Desk to pick up a printed Family Gallery Guide and learn about selected works of art in the DMA’s collection.

  • If you want to have your own adventure, we recommend starting on Level 4 and working your way down. It’s okay if you don’t see everything in one day!

  • There are noise-canceling earbuds and earmuffs in the Tower Gallery on Level 4. Earmuffs can be returned at any Guest Services Desk. Earbuds can be requested for use during family programs.

  • A quiet area with comfortable seating for resting can be found in the hallway on Level M2.

  • We recommend visiting on Wednesdays and Thursdays around 11:00 a.m. for families seeking a quieter Museum experience.

  • During family events such as Spring Break Family Fun and Family Festival, we offer a dedicated Sensory Haven for sensory-friendly needs.

  • Strollers are welcome throughout the DMA. Wagons are not allowed.

  • Take a break. Little legs tire out easily in this big museum. Feel free to take a seat on a bench or even the floor as you spend time with a work of art.

  • Need a restroom? Restrooms are located on Levels 1 and 4, as well as on the Mezzanines (Levels M1 and M2). Water fountains are located on Level 4.

  • You may nurse anywhere in the Museum. Caregivers looking for privacy may visit the family restroom on Level M1.

  • Feeling hungry? While food is not allowed in the Museum galleries, you’re welcome to enjoy a snack in the outdoor courtyards or the DMA Cafe. See the kids’ corner menu.
