Informed by valuable community input, DMA Community Programs are dedicated to amplifying the diverse voices and fostering creativity within our city to increase equitable access to the arts. With a strong commitment to diversity and accessibility, we offer art experiences that resonate with individuals of varied backgrounds, ages, and abilities. By collaborating closely with local organizations, area artists, and various Dallas communities, we strive to create vibrant and inclusive programming for our city’s communities.
At the DMA, we believe that art is a powerful force that can bridge gaps, spark dialogue, and celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our city. You can actively participate in our initiatives through volunteering at our community events, or request an art program to be brought to your organization.
If you are interested, have questions, or would like more information about free DMA Community Programs, please email us.
We offer the following free programs to current or prospective partners.
All requests must be made at least eight weeks in advance. Our event schedule is limited, and we prioritize attending events that are held in the DFW area and that align with our community commitment. While we aim to extend our reach and impact to as many communities as possible, logistical constraints may restrict the events we are able to attend. Due to limited resources, we are unable to participate in 5K runs or fundraising events.
Intergenerational Art Program
These specific workshops are specially curated for the whole family. The hour-long art workshops offer a unique blend of insightful discussions linked to the DMA's collection and special exhibitions, followed by an art-making session that revolves around the themes explored during the discussion. Topics change regularly and are guided by the group’s interests.
Citywide Youth Program
Our afterschool workshops are multi-session or single visit, each lasting an hour, and are designed to progressively build upon the ideas explored in each session. Throughout the series of workshops, students actively participate in art discussions and are encouraged to express their creativity through hands-on art projects that directly relate to the themes and concepts discussed. These workshops offer a dynamic environment where students can develop their artistic skills, expand their creative thinking, and cultivate fun exploration.
Senior Art Program
Our Senior Workshops are designed to celebrate lifelong learning and foster a strong sense of community. These workshops offer a monthly or single-visit opportunity for off-site art experiences that cover a wide range of engaging topics and provide a chance to explore exciting new art materials. Each workshop is thoughtfully crafted to provide a dynamic and enjoyable environment where a senior community group can discover new passions, share perspectives, and connect.
Gallery and Studio Program
Gallery tours and studio workshops are structured for a 30-minute gallery exploration followed by an additional 30 minutes for art making in our studio reflecting back on the tour. Tours range from highlights of the collection to special exhibitions. Themes and topics change regularly and are guided by the group’s interests and our current exhibitions.
Public Event Art Making
We offer drop-in art experiences at festivals or community events. The DMA staff and volunteers facilitate the designated DMA post at the event and help participants with the take-home activity. These activities provide quick art-making opportunities that introduce attendees to artwork in the DMA's collection. Themes change on a yearly basis, and we guarantee a diverse array of options that cater to a wide range of interests.
Please note: Our event schedule is limited, and we prioritize attending events that are held in Dallas proper and that align with our community commitment. While we aim to extend our reach and impact to as many communities as possible, logistical constraints may restrict the events we are able to attend.
Art Kits
Our Art Kit offerings are small at-home art activities that serve as giveaways, suitable for distribution at community events or within your community group. Each kit contains an art project with all the necessary materials. Additionally, we include information about art programming and other updates at the DMA. Our menu of themes changes annually. We guarantee a diverse array of options that cater to a wide range of interests.
Please note: Due to limited supplies, we may not be able to fulfill all requests. We appreciate your understanding and will do our best to accommodate as many requests as possible.
